a bet

JP linked to this amazing story about 500 Chinese shoppers that showed up at a local superstore at a preset time - lifting haggling onto a new level!

Duh, of course, etc.

They got all 20-30% off and a goody bag when they left.

Of course the Chinese have the sites up - like teambuy.com.cn.

So here's my bet:

Within a week or two we'll see a site for our part of the world organised by area and products (as in planned to buy) where you can log on and state you plans.

The site would then "auction" the buying power to the local superstores for the product category, asking for a small cut for their own pocket.

The biggest discounts wins, time is set and the potential buyers alerted.

Nifty shift from push-marketing to the real market, the buyers, just have to love it.

Expecting the site name to be along the lines of "flipper.com" or "snapup.org" and that it will have some neat rounded-corners-layout.

Any takers of the bet?

Ah, and yes I forgot, in two years it'll bypass the retailers and become a true distributor by itself and end up being bought by Amazon...

Rick, Fred, business plans already received?

Hi Sig.

Yes. Mobshop, 9 years ago. It was HQ in California and, unfortunately failed as it was a bit ahead of its time.

Since that time, I've seen 4 other plans that have attempted this, all prior to the China article.

best,

Rick

Hi Rick, good to hear that you guys are on top of it!

Wow, 9 years ago... well, being early-early is certainly risky - duly noted and taken to heart of course ;)

During the dotcom, it was known as reverse auction.

So, if you fine tune the plan, and have a brick and mortar company offer the same thing, it will work better.

Though, one has to think how much cost savings would you get compare to buying from one of those megastores. (assuming it is a common commodity that you are buying).

Hi Sig,

I am the CEO of Teambuy.com.cn and if possible shall we talk through Skype(Charlie_chen88)?I just want to learn from you as it seams that you have some experinences about TeamBuying.

I am based in China Guangzhou and we also have office in Beijing and NY due to the biz rapidaly expansion.

Cheers,

Charlie

Hello,

There is one more online haggling company, coming up in USA. Its name is Nethaggler. They just had a beta launch. It will have more supported sites and features in the future.

Please check out the website at http://www.nethaggler.com/index.htm.
